MISSION STATEMENT

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Because God first loved and created us, and because Christ loves us even now, after He died for us while we were yet sinners, we, the members of First Presbyterian Church, Dickson, will return that love to the Father and His Son by the acts of this mission statement.

We will be servants of Christ and each other in all things, living our faith as witnesses, loving each other and all God’s children. We make a solemn and holy commitment to be honest at all times with God and with each other, no matter the pain or cost. We will not remove ourselves from the world but rather invite God’s rule of the world and welcome Christ’s kingdom here on earth. All of this, we will do with a sense of celebration.

We will provide a sacred space in which two or three may gather and where Christ will sup with us … a space where the Holy Spirit may guide, lead, direct, and touch each one of us. In this sacred house of the Holy One, we will worship and praise God with our music, prayers, concern, and love for one another and our Lord Christ. Our worship will be to honor God, preach the Gospel, and provide rest, renewal, and spiritual growth for all who gather at First Presbyterian.

We will specifically direct our mission efforts in a concrete manner. These efforts will be directed at the aging and youth within our church family and the Dickson community. We will provide shelter for unchurched families seeking a house of faith because of relocation, a previous bad religious experience, or conflict/tragedy in life.

We will be evangelical in welcoming diversity. We will proclaim the Good News to the lost in ways that have yet to be shown to us by the Spirit.

We commit ourselves to fulfilling our calling within both the Universal Church and the Presbyterian Church (USA); acting under the authority of Scripture, and pledging fidelity to the historic theologies and confessions of the Presbyterian Church.

With prayer for God’s guidance and empowerment, we commend this statement to our congregation this twentieth day of January in the year of our Lord, Nineteen Hundred and ninety-one.
